Toddlers
Toddler classes provide the first experience in group play for two-year-olds and help parents encourage children to be independent. Fort the first few months an adult must attend with each toddler. Grown-ups first participate in activities with their child and gradually, over a period of several months, separate from the child by first going to another room for 20 to 30 minutes. Finally, adults may leave the building if they so desire.
While still in the building, adults spend a portion of their time talking together about questions common to the parenting experience. Toddler groups meet once or twice a week for a two-hour session. Groups are limited to 12 children plus one parent for each child.
Two-day Groups (3-year olds)
A special experience for children who have no previous group experience. Emphasis is placed on developing classroom routines, exposure to story time, participation in songs and poems, and recognition of colors, numbers, shapes, letters, and directional words. Group size is 18 to 20 children. The classes meet in the mornings for two half-day sessions per week.
Three-day Groups (3 and 4-year olds)
Three and four year old children are grouped by age and attend three half-day sessions each week. During the early months of the school year, teachers spend time helping children learn to play cooperatively and encouraging creative play. Throughout the year, teachers lead small groups and individuals in cognitive learning experiences which are developmentally appropriate for the group. Time is spent in art activities, music, creative drama, and stories. These classes are limited to 20 children. Classes are scheduled for two and a half hours each session and occur both morning and afternoon.
Five-day Group (4 and 5-year olds)
This transition class meets for five half-day sessions each week and is offered in the morning or afternoon. The class addresses the needs of children who are ready for more than three days, but who are not ready for kindergarten. The class features small group or individual learning experiences which promote appropriate cognitive and social growth.
The class is limited to 20 children.
